Blog #1 How We Got Here....

A new journey....

A Couple of the flex team members reflected on their thoughts on flex learning, how we got here, and where we hope to go.

As an educator I am always looking for alternate ways of learning for each student I teach, to help them reach their potential and succeed in life.  I strongly believe in continuous
growth and learning, keeping up on current research-based best practices to help support all student needs.  It is important to constantly re-evaluate our practices, focusing on instruction and what is working for students. This allows them to grow and reach their potential, creating a climate of inquiry and continuous growth. That is why when the opportunity arose to be a part of the Flexible Learning Team I was interested!  I was excited to open up doors for students to be able to access learning in another way with flexible pathways.  Collaborating with colleagues is a very valued part of this process and expanding our professional learning network can only help us gain new ideas and understanding to bring to our students.  I am so proud of our team and how we have come together with different backgrounds, strengths and are creating learning experiences for students that will change the face of education and allow more flexibility in learning.  This video begins to show the energy our team has and how it will continue to grow for the best of our students.  I can not wait to see what we can create!

I had met leaders, educators and the IT team from Wild Rose and knew immediately this was a place I wanted to work. When the opportunity came up to lead the flex program and support learning I jumped at the chance, moving to work with a dynamic team of educators. Starting a new team and a new program requires a shift in pedagogy from everyone. Evaluating how we can change and shift programming for high school students and beyond means examining long established practices and routines. It is daunting, but fun to see where the journey will take us! So far I’m really excited to see the thinking and collaboration between flex team members as they build courses and challenge thinking.

What is you vision of what a flexible learning environment would look like for students? How could it change learning?
